Have Things Really Changed That Much?

It’s a question that sneaks up on us when we look back at our careers, our creative work, or even just the pace of life: Have things really changed that much?
The short answer is yes, and no.
What’s Changed
The tools, the trends, the platforms, those are always in motion. What used to take a studio full of equipment can now be done on a laptop in a coffee shop. The way we share our work has shifted from print to pixels, from galleries to Instagram feeds, from local audiences to global reach. The pace feels faster, the noise louder, and the rules less predictable.
What Hasn’t Changed
And yet, underneath it all, the core of creativity hasn’t changed. The desire to express, to connect, to tell stories that matter, that’s timeless. A pencil sketch and a digital rendering may look worlds apart, but they’re both rooted in the same spark: the human need to imagine and to make.
Finding Balance in the Shifts
It’s easy to get caught up in the overwhelm of constant change. But when you strip away the surface, you see continuity: creativity is still about ideas, expression, and impact. The tools may evolve, but our role as storytellers, problem solvers, and dreamers remains.
So, Have Things Really Changed?
Yes, the landscape looks different. But the heart of what we do, the reason we create,
hasn’t gone anywhere. If anything, change has only expanded our canvas, giving us more ways to bring our ideas to life.
Maybe the better question isn’t whether things have changed, but how we can use change to keep creating work that matters.
