Why make things?

We make things because sometimes words in our head don’t feel like enough. A sketch, a song, a phrase written in the right rhythm, they can hold a weight that thinking alone can’t carry.

You make things because there’s a part of you that wants to be witnessed, even if it’s only by yourself. When you see something you created outside of you, it’s proof you exist in a way that’s more than passing through.

You make things because silence can be heavy, and creativity breaks it open. Because sometimes pain needs somewhere to go, and joy needs somewhere to spill.

You make things because there’s a strange, private satisfaction in shaping something that didn’t exist before, like you’ve wrestled a piece of chaos into order.

And maybe, deep down, you make things because you want to leave a trace, a little spark that says: I was here. I felt this. Maybe you do too.

I've been thinking about this question for a while, as I'm taking a brief break from doing shows and producing work. What is this drive to create? Why make things?

What do you think, and what do you make?

Sourdough bread, another form of expression, or maybe just hungry?
